Apologies for the question, but looks like I misread the rules around driving in Japan on a foreign drivers license. I thought it said you could drive for up to one year on a foreign license before having to get a Japanese one.
I tried to rent a car from Toyota Car Rental yesterday and was shown a page for Australians showing an International Driver’s License and Passport is needed to rent a car.
Does anyone know if there are other car rental places that can honor a valid Australian license to rent? Or is this Japanese road rules/law?
Also any way to get an International license here in Kyoto? I’ve looked but haven’t found a legal option for that.
