  1. At risk of getting a lot of hate Michelin star restaurants here are nowhere near the quality they are in France or Spain. Can’t speak for other places as I haven’t been to these kinds of restaurants elsewhere.

Not saying they are bad but I’ve had experiences like getting entrees that were clearly just defrosted. And the general quality of the cuisine isn’t crazy. Normally I wouldn’t care about something like this but if I drop 3万+ for dinner I expect better. I’ve eaten a lot better in restaurants that are a third of the cost.

I have the suspicion that getting a Michelin star here is easier than other places.

  2. Why are people trusting a rating system for European fine dining for Asian cuisine? Most of the Asian Michelin starred restaurants I’ve been to are mid and just ways to charge you extra for the status.

  3. Marco Pierre White has also said Michelin ratings are a bit of a joke all round these days and they are much more liberal handing out stars

  4. Went to one for lunch yesterday! Was absolutely delicious. I’ll probably go again today. Unlike the other comments suggest, I’ve personally had great experiences with the star restaurants in Kyoto. I never seem to pay over 2000 yen and the quality is amazing.

  5. Italy always seems to do poorly in these rankings. Perhaps it’s because Michelin pays a lot of attention to service and formality?
