Hi, i am visiting kyoto and the station is a great place to pick up food at one of its many downstairs eateries. But most places there package up the food to take along. So where can/should I eat the food? There are no tables and taking it home is not practical.

It’s meant for taking home, or eating on the bullet train in case of ekiben
Nesrest alley
Haha, there is a good place.
I used to buy Ekiben at Kyoto Station to collect Ekiben packaging boxes, so I often ate it there.
Where is it?
There is an open-air terrace on the top floor of Kyoto Station with seats.
In addition, near the south gate of Kyoto Station, outside the exit, there is a terrace on the escalator with seats.
(Using Google Translate)
Go to the rooftop terrace green space
I literally just watched a video on this lol

In the corridor (Nanbokujiyuturo) that leads from Isetan past the JR West Gate to the Shinkansen Lines and the Kintetsu Lines, there is a Kyoto Tourist Information Center on the right just past the second-floor entrance to Isetan. There are stairs that go up to the South Promenade on the 3rd floor. You can also use the stairs that are just before the 7-11 outside the JR West gate. It’s on page 9 of this guide. The guide lists other public areas.
