Will need to get out of our house in Kadena area after I take a private job back in CONUS. Will give 2-3 weeks notice. Wife and I are worried about the process. Here’s our 3-week plan:
Week 1:
-
Give Kadena Housing 3 weeks notice. They will handle cancel lease and notice to landlord rep.
-
Start to sell Wife’s Kei car online using Facebook Market and other websites (any other suggestions?)
3 . Also likewise start to sell minor furniture and household items.
- Drop some stuff at Thrift Shop somewhere (any suggestions where?).
Week 2:
-
See how to get rid of large items with city for a fee (sodai-gomi pick up) in case large furniture remains.
-
Sell online large furniture item like beds, sofa, tables, etc.
-
Deal with ending lease and arrange final walk-thru with housing/landlord rep.
-
Sell 2nd car (Y-plate) online with contingent to handle over on last day.
Week 3 (final):
-
Drop price of everything online to final bottom price. Last few days offer for free.
-
Sell any remaining car(s) sell to dealer (any suggestion where?)
-
Ship small items by USPS
-
Last days, any remaining household good – toss (any recycle center on or off base?). Arrange sodai-gomi pick up with city for large items.
-
Last 2 days, pack multiple luggage for flight to CONUS. Check into hotel.
-
Clean house as best we can. Hand over keys to landlord rep.
-
Fly out next day. Good-bye Okinawa.
I know there are much more stuff to do in between, but this is our general plan to get rid of stuff. (Is letting landlord rep handle remaining household goods a costly option?)
Any comments, suggestion and recommendations would be greatly appreciated?
