1 month job

Hi.
CIRCUMSTANCES
I currently work at an eikaiwa and have a humanities specialist visa so I can work in many different places. My job just told me last week they won’t be renewing my contract and it ends during next month July.
I found a new job pretty quickly, my next job starts September 1st with my first paycheck being October 20th.
BUT
I only have 200,000yen saved up, I’ll get one more paycheck and a completion bonus to put me around 400,000 when I’m let go.
I need to find a new apartment which will take up around 300,000 for two months (I found apartments with 1 month free and no key deposit) and I need to move from Fukuoka to Nagoya for the new job.

QUESTION
My question is are there any jobs I can find that I can work at for a month in between my jobs ending and starting?
Where should I look.
I’m open to online or in person really anything I just don’t believe I’ll be able to make it until October 20th without extra funds.

I’m also open to suggestions about apartments. They don’t have to be in Nagoya is can be nisshin or Togo or tsushima

Thank you for reading

  1. Maybe you can find a summer program/ camp. But outside of that I doubt anyone will hire you for a month.

Put up flyers for tutoring. If you speak Japanese maybe a small restaurant will take you on to wash dishes. Just spitballing here, get creative.

Get on the phone to friends and family. You won’t make it 4 months on ¥100k. A tough but good lesson to learn, always have enough saved to survive at least 3 months, ideally 6. I know that’s tough while teaching, but a necessity.

    Good luck.

  2. In terms of apartments, some places won’t take credit card for the initial cost, so you might want to be conscious about that. You can tell you agent that you are only interested in apartments where you can cover the cost by credit card.

  3. I’m in Nagoya. Try r/nagoya as well
Freebell is often a go to for foreigners here. Near Nagoya station, no key money. Can have a roommate if you need to save money. Staff speaks English.
Get on the Central Japan Teachers group on Facebook. Maybe you can make some connections. I see some part time work posted on Gaijin pot.

  4. If you can’t find a cheap enough apartment, try finding a sharehouse. It may be around 50,000-70,000 a month. No key money. And a short term stay. That way you can save some money for living expensive, and use that spare money for groceries etc. You can stay there until you get your new salary to get a better place.

I’ve stayed in a few before between jobs or when traveling. And know some people I know who lived in one for years.

Good luck during the job search. 1 month is short. Look at all the sites gaijinpot etc, put the word out to friends. Hopefully you can find something.

  5. Any reason you have to move right away?

I mean traveling is a bitch but maybe delay the move until.

400k is more than enough to last you until October

  6. Honestly, not all apartments will put you at initial costs of around 300,000 especially if you’re living in Aichi. If it costs you that much then you’re an idiot who let himself get screwed over.

If you use SUUMO you can find costs with around 120,000-200,000 yen.

Use SUUMO and don’t be stupid by thinking 300,000 is the average.

  7. Summer camps, substitute positions, short-term project support. You can find those more readily this time of year.

  8. Could you perhaps live in a share house just temporarily until your other job takes off, leaving you time to save money and be in a better financial position?
