Just as a heads up for those who don’t know: scammers are able to infiltrate the booking.com and agoda (owned by booking.com) app chats.
I’m a fairly savvy person when it comes to recognizing phishing attempts, but this almost got me.
I recently booked one of the hotels for my upcoming trip through agoda. I had a couple pleasant messages back and forth with the hotel through the agoda app. Note that this is all within the official app, in the messenger section. This is allegedly the safest way to communicate with accommodations. A couple days later, I got another message in the same thread, in the app, allegedly from the hotel, saying they had trouble processing my details, and with a link. The link was obscured by agoda (at least they did that much). So, I called the hotel, and they informed me that this message was a scammer, and to ignore it. This is really surprising since most phishing attempts are via phone or email, I can’t believe they got into the app messenger where we’d already exchanged several legitimate messages.
Just sharing in the hope that no one clicks any suspicious links in the booking.com or agoda apps. Stay safe!
