I’m currently contemplating a move to Japan with my Japanese wife and our kids from Singapore. I reckon I’ve still got a good 20 years of my career ahead of me but slightly worried that Japan doesn’t offer decent career opportunities for a mechanical engineer especially as I’ve yet to start learning Japanese.
When you look at some of the well established regulars on the other sub-reddits and they are staring they are looking at a broke-ass retirement, I wonder if this is a product of being a foreigner in Japan or just bad and irresponsible planning by the poster?
I presume this guy is very well established, can speak excellent Japanese, yet he hasn’t been able to develop a decent career here. I’d hate to reach retirement age in Japan and have to worry about spending on a daily basis.
From a financial perspective, is it worth moving to Japan for any reason whatsoever? Or move and just accept you’ll be broke when reaching pension age?
