I saw the other question concerning a visa and I didn't want to hijack the thread. Slightly different. Coming over as SOFA, wife is a Japanese national. Trying to get my son (22) SOFA status but that may not work. I'm doing all of that mess and I have a firm grasp of the rules for that.
My question is if he can't get sponsored and we go with a specified visa (dependent of a national). Can he come over as a tourist and my wife applies for it there? And if anyone has done this, how long is the process, approximately? Or would it be easier if he applied for a Japanese passport? His intent is to live/stay in Japan (not necessarily Okinawa). Any insight is appreciated.
