Japanese and Canadian passports with different names

Hi all – I've done some digging around but seeking some updated insight.

I have Japanese and Canadian passports with different names. My Japanese passport has my Mom's Surname (Dad's Surname), while my Canadian passport has just my Dad's Surname.

I believe it is not wise for me to be too transparent about having both passports. I am hoping to not raise any questions around my name.

From Canada to Japan, my plan was to: Buy a ticket with my Canadian passport name; Check in with my Canadian passport name and number; Use my Japanese passport upon landing/immigration.

Will it matter at the border gates in Japan that the incoming flight manifest will *not* have my Japanese name on it?

From Japan to other countries (planning to go to other countries in Asia and back to Canada), my plan was to: Buy a ticket with my Japanese passport name; Check in with my Japanese passport name and number; Use my Canadian passport upon landing/immigration.

Is it worth it to change my name in Canada?

I have the option of legally changing my name in Canada and having it reflect my Japanese passport. If I do so, would it make more sense for me to change my name to: Mom's Surname-Dad's Surname? Or simply Mom's Surname?

Thank you so much for any advice you can offer. It's an opaque world out there!
