なんだって meaning in this context

I realize だって is a contraction of だという, but I don´t know what is meant by なんだって in this context:

A: 毛繕いしたり自由に可愛がっていいカフェなんです

B: 猫カフェみたいだね

A: なんだって毛繕いできるんですよすごくないですか

I was thinking maybe it´s kind of brushing off B´s comment and just saying again that you can pet the animals and how amazing that is as if B didn´t catch that from the first sentence, but I´m not sure. Also I wonder if it is short for 何だって? And if so what is the function, since normally だって would agree with previous statement, and then add something to it as in "but" for example
