Hi everyone! I'm writing this post because I'm a bit confused and anxious and I want to make sure I'm doing everything the right way before the time comes to renew my International Services Visa. I came to Japan on February 2023 on a Working Holiday visa and then I found a job in August 2023 that sponsored me for a Work Visa (International Services type).
When my WH visa expired, I got my COE and went back to France in February 2024 to apply for my 1 year International Services Work Visa. I came back to Japan in April 2024, working for the same company. Then, this September 2024, I found a new job with another company that will extend my visa in April 2025, it's the same job but just a different company. Now, I know it's still early to apply for visa extension but as I said, I want to be organized and make sure I do everything right for my visa extension time comes. When checking online, I saw that you have to provide a resident taxation certificate and tax payment certificate when you apply for visa extension and that you can get it from the City Hall.
I'm anxious because… I never heard of this payment or document even while on my WH visa… I'm lost and I wonder if it's normal??? I always pay everything I'm asked to pay but I was never asked to pay any of these nor did receive anything about it. My previous company that I started working for under my WH visa was kind of a part time job and I wasn't paid enough. In December 2023 I received a tax document from them stating a really small amount of money but I didn't have anything to do with it.
So now, for my visa extension, how is it going to be? Are they going to ask me for this document? Will they only count this new year in Japan under my current International Services visa and not under the WH one? How and when am I suppose to pay for resident taxation/tax? Is this year counted as a first year in Japan since it's the first one under an International Services visa? Also, where can I see if I have something to pay? I'm lost so I'd really appreciate some help, I love Japan, I really love my life here and I don't want to mess things up 🥹
