Just quit my middle of nowhere 250k eikaiwa job no notice, leaving japan same day. No regrets. Read on.

Hey all.

Well it's finally happened. Quit the shite ass eikaiwa job. I would say I'm sorry but I'm not. 8 months in…..its just killed my soul. Don't even know where to begin but I'll keep it short and please feel welcome to read my previous posts about the place or ask questions in the comments.

My breaking point has been the new school year and getting overloaded with classes (7 or 8 on average at 50 minutes each) whilst a jaded and quite frankly poorly social skilled long time lurker mid 30s eikaiwa grunt at this tiny mom and pop joint has been getting away with a light schedule of just 3 or 4 30 minute classes a day whilst getting paid more with preferential treatment.

Nope. I'm sorry I'm just not doing it anymore. Singing hello hello lets shake hands over 2 or 3 times a day to 3 year old before flipping to a serious business English class with a 50 year old that works at Epson 5 minutes later is just not even feasible 5 times a week. And a "boss" that micromanages and watches on camera whilst refusing to replace equipment until a student physically harm themselves from it? (Context, refused to replace a plastic crayon box until one of the kids sliced open their finger on the broken edge of the old one). Yeah. I'm just done.

Give notice you say? Oh please trust me I really would…..if it wasn't for the misery and shit storm that will follow if I gave such notice such as illegal fines and deductions from my final paycheck that I'm honestly just too tired and broken to be dealing with. This penny pinching bastard would make it a whole headache that I'm too stressed to deal with.

The way this owner treated a South African that worked here was appalling too. They arrived late at night disoriented tired and blown out from the flight at Narita. Could have driven down in their brand new mini van to pick them up but did they? Did they fuck (2 hour drive for context) instead forced them to pay 70k yen for a taxi and just watched as they paid and didn't offer any assistance. This is the same owner that will argue and question you on spending 500 yen to replace crayons 🖍 keep it in mind. I could go on but I won't.

I can't do it anymore. And I'm sorry if I'm coming across as a bad or pathetic person but this has just been my breaking point.

If you're reading this and considering eikaiwas please be very careful and do your research. Don't let your burning desire to "just get into Japan" take over.
