Good Evening!
I plan on entering Japan next year for 6 months to a year. A quick summary:
- 2 bachelor's degrees; One in education (certified in my province) and one in English
- 23-24 years old
- a few year's worth of teaching/training experience
- Minimal Japanese (Demo madamada desu)
I want to practice my craft (I enjoy teaching EAL and ESL) and spend some time alone in a new country, however, I have some questions before I go:
-
What is the competition like with teaching jobs? my reading and research have led to me think I would enjoy Eikaiwa work, but the reviews and salary leave lots to be desired. However, it seems to attract a lot of non-teachers who lack experience
-
What is, realistically, the best salary I can make while in Japan? I'm not going for the money, as I would make more here, but I am curious. I'm open to most types of work (I've spent 7 years in retail/customer service/working on the phone) so anything of interest works with me
-
Which, between the WHV and Eikaiwa route, is a better way to get in? Speed is a factor, as I'd like to have my adventure sooner. However, I want some different perspectives
Thanks for reading!
