Firstly, I'm at N5 level in Japanese, and my only knowledge of grammar is from Minna no Nihongo.
I was chatting with a Japanese friend, and this is the text I sent:
「私の注意を引いた一つは、投稿に書いてあった文章と写真で、或る時はいぬまるさんがこの人に課金アイテムを買ってくれたと話していた事でした。」
What I wanted to convey in the text was that Inumaru bought this person a paid item. But my friend interpreted it as Inumaru received a paid item from this person. I confirmed what I wanted to say with her and asked her to correct the sentence I made, and she sent me this:
そうだったんですね。
いぬまるさんがその彼に買ってあげてたんでしたか..
修正すると
「私の注意を引いた一つは、投稿に書いてあった文章と写真で、或る時はいぬまるさんがこの人に課金アイテムを買って貰ったと話していた事でした。」
というふうに書く感じですね😊
But with 「いぬまるさんがこの人に課金アイテムを買って貰った」wouldn't it actually mean this person bought the item for Inumaru now?
My logic for this sentence follows the sentence pattern taught in Minna no Nihongo, such as:
母は「私に」セーターを送ってくれました。
私は佐藤さんに傘を貸してもらいました。佐藤さんは私に傘を貸してくれました。
But I thought my mistake was maybe using くれます since Minna no Nihongo only uses くれます when the speaker is the one who receives something. So I asked if it'd be better if I wrote 「いぬまるさんがこの人に課金アイテムを買ってあげた」and she said;
ここの買ってあげたを使うとその彼がいぬまるさんに買ってあげたの？と誤解される感じになるので、ここでは「あげた」は使わないです。
But what confuses me further was that she herself uses 買ってあげた in her message when she said 「そうだったんですね。いぬまるさんがその彼に買ってあげてたんでしたか..」above!
And my head still can't wrap around 買ってもらった because it still only means Inumaru is the one who was bought and given the item by the other person in my head. Since Minna no Nihongo taught it as such with:
私はタワポンさんに田中さんを紹介してもらいました。
私はワットさんに地図を描いてもらいました。
And so on.
Can anyone please help me understand this problem? I feel like I'm going crazy over a seemingly simple grammar point. I don't want to ask her again because I don't want to mess the conversation up further. Thank you.
