Doctors movig to Japan and JMLE, please give me some advice

Hi guys

I hope to move to Japan and work there but not sure if this would be right. Below is reference to my background.

I'm South Korean graduated in RCSI in Ireland and I finished Foundation Year 1(FY1; intern) in the UK then paused it to do compulsory military service back in South Korea (currently doing so). I will finish my service in Mar 2025 and start FY2 in Aug 2025. I will defo do FY2 back in the UK to go back to the clinical setting (Aug 2025 – Aug 2026) and during FY2 I will take the MSRA exam for radiology application in Jan 2026. Apparently it is safe to score 90th centile or above to get into radiology in the UK. From Passmedicine (Q banks for MSRA), I scored 81st centile (finished all clinical questions, not done SJT type questions) and have a lot of time so it's doable I assume.

Even if I get into radiology at one go, I will regret not trying Japan cuz I really like Japanese culture and food. Besides, Japan is so close to home. But I'm not too sure about working environment there.

I never been to Japan yet but going to Japan December for a trip. Recently started learning Japanese so not even JLPT N5 level yet. But I'm enjoying studying it.

So here are the questions:
1. Would you guys recommend working in Japan ( if possible, compared to UK)?

  1. How is the working environments? Especially in hospitals

  2. How long would it take to study for JMLE? Would it be doable while working? Is there any group/institutions in the UK for JMLE study?

  3. Following Q4, is it recommemdable to do masters or get a job in a medical research area in Japan to improve the language and study for JMLE there?

  4. Is it really hard for foreigners to get into a training programme (for me radiology)? I saw somewhere that if I pass JMLE, getting into a training programme isn't a problem. But not sure

I'm sorry for the messy post. Please give me some advice. I really appreciate it
