Would staying in Japan long-term on a tourist visa impact my chance of securing a student visa further down the line?

Pretty much as the title says. I know there is a 180-day stay rule, so would this come into play if applying for a student visa in the same year? Just to be clear, I have no intention of overstaying the legal stay limit.
