You’re ignoring him being there for 9 months in 2010-2011 after NJPW pulled him and Yujiro from TNA due to Russo being Russo. That’s where the persona started, he was a heel who would get taunted with racial epithets. That’s why he does the eye taunt.
Naito could transition to a heel easily because he already knew how to be a heel. You don’t just send any random bum to cmll and think they are going to be the biggest star in the company lol.
Not to mention that Naito in first 2 years post excursion built up way more credibility than Umino.
It doesn’t matter how long he was there, before he went he was a bit lame, when he came back he was the coolest MF on the planet.
