I've been debating on which sub to post this on, but since the main theme of it is wanting to move to Japan, here it is. This is a hybrid of a finding a career/finding a path/moving to Japan type of post.
I have a degree in computer science, but no actual experience for 2 years now because of family life events and other pursuits. I'm not actually motivated to pursue software development, but I do really love interacting with people.
There are a few paths I could see myself taking, but I don't know which is the most viable so I'm asking here, I guess.
-
is "becoming a digital nomad" and coming on that visa, but I don't know how I might be able to find an opportunity like that, or even what preliminary role would lead me to a role like that.
-
is working for a US based company and transferring to a branch/office in Japan but those are multinational companies who have a high barrier.
-
is working to get enough experience to just get hired by a company in Japan.
Most realistic seems to be 3. But my issue is that it seems that if the role is not software development, there are very little opportunities for foreigners who don't have Japanese language skills. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
But as I've mentioned, I don't really love development itself.
Maybe I have my priorities aren't in the right place? But I love the culture of Japan (I've stopped watching anime and playing video games for a while now so I don't know if I can still be considered a weeb) and don't really care what I'm doing as long as I can tolerate it, make enough money for a half decent life, and immerse myself and learn the language. The problem is the visa. I could technically work doing whatever in the states to save enough to go to language school in Japan for 2 years, but that seems like a waste.
I worked as an ALT for a few months and that wasn't the greatest experience, although for reasons different from the ones you typically hear about, I think.
In short, I guess I am lost on what to do and people will say, you will have the same problems wherever you go if the problem stands with you, but the thing for me is that I would literally be happy being an Uber driver in Tokyo if there was a visa for it, since that's what I've been doing to survive in the US, and I don't really mind the job and the lifestyle it gives me at all.
I make more than enough money to live and I get to meet all kinds of people and talk to them. The only thing is that I dislike where I'm geographically doing it. This is not to say that I could be successful doing the same thing in Japan, because I of course don't know the roads of Tokyo, for one. It's just to illustrate that the happiness thing for me literally is where I am geographically.
Any thoughts or opinions would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you a lot for your response, in advance.
