People who were rejected and then got in a different year, what do you think changed the second/third time?

I know interviews aren't even out yet and I don't have any expectations of getting in so I want to start building myself up to apply and hopefully get in next year, but I'd love to hear what you did differently the year you got in compared to the year(s) you didn't. both in terms of the application and especially in terms of the interview.
