  1. I’d argue it be great for it to be Nakamura, and I could see WWE letting it happen.

  2. Probably Nakamura, Okada or Shibata. Gotta close out the New Three Musketeers the right way

  3. It wouldn’t happen but something like Nakamura/Shibata/Tanahashi vs. Ibushi/Naito/Okada if you wanted his rivals and partners.

  4. Okada where I’ll go “ugh again” at first then “this is the best shit I’ve ever seen” when it ends. Just like good old times.

  5. My outside the box thought is Minoru Suzuki. Suzuki wrecking Tana’s leg kinda perfectly coincides with Tana’s knees crapping out, and Liger failed to beat Suzuki in his final singles so Tana could right that wrong.

  6. If it’s an older guy then Naito would make a lot of sense and it’s the match that would sell the most tickets. But my guess is probably one of the younger guys. Could see them go with Shota even if he still sucks by then.

  7. Depends if he knocks off all the dream singles matches in the next year (Nakamura, Shibata, Suzuki, Bryan, etc), but if he does that run and then focusses on a new gen guy in a singles or multiman match

  8. Triple threat with Naito and a returning Ibushi

The 3 can botch around until their bodies disintegrate and Meltzer has to be carried out as he throws around all the stars in the galaxy at them in sheer orgasmic pleasure

  9. Either a heel Shota that absolutely destroys tana making him the most hated person.

Shinsuke or Shibata- One of the other musketeers.

  10. I’d do an all star tag of some sort like with Kenta Kobashi. Something like the stars of the 10s (as Tanahashi is a large reason the boom period happened) vs the new generation. You’d need to get Okada involved, it’s hard to tell the story of NJPW without Okada/Tanahashi. After that, you get Naito cause that’s probably the best spot for him given his physical state, Kenny if he’s avaliable, and then…I dunno maybe Suzuki? Shibata, Nakamura and Ibushi would be the remaining people that make the most sense but probably aren’t happening for different reasons. The young guys would be Umino, Uemura, Tsuji, Narita and Oiwa. Doesn’t have to be 5v5 at all, could be 4 or 3 but that’s what I’d do.

If he means it, and he ain’t coming back, it may be best to have him win it (and then put over a younger guy at a prior show)

  11. Okada & Shibata : 3 Way. If he doesn’t win he has to retire. So he has to fend off both and then continuously save one to win. The ultimate metaphor for running a wrestling promotion. His new sole job going forward.

  12. Best pitch with no strings: Okada. It’s his best and most impactful string of matches.

However, if it’s internal to NJPW only, EVIL.

  13. If the stars align and shinsuke decides to leave wwe(cuz trust they aren’t letting him appear in njpw cuz of their relationship with aew) then that should be his last match either that or they can run okada vs tanahashi one more time

  14. I liked others Suzuki idea. Also works for me because my first New Japan match was their KOPW main event.

  15. On one hand it should be John Cena because man I want that match more than anything.

But on the other hand Tana should retire in disgrace after losing to President EVIL.

  16. I sincerely hope it’s a multi-man tag on New Years Dash and they just let him get all of his shit in and play the hits. Let him put over someone big time the night before at the Dome, but give everyone that feel-good Liger-esque send-off.
