Hey,
I will relocate to Japan in a couple of months. My new job is assisting me via a relocation agency. Part of this includes helping me setup a phone subscription and a bank account.
In my home country, depending on the provider, phone subscription can be cheap or expensive. But you can cancel it within a month and keep the phone number. Since I do not think I will have a choice when the relocation agency will set it up for me, is it easy in Japan to switch company?
Same question for bank account.
Thanks!

Yes, just go to any other provider and they will help you do it. It will time though, about an hour, lol. Some companies have cancelation fees (usually one month worth of payment). We did it here, switched from y-mobile to Rakuten. Number will stay the same.
Dunno about the banks. The first month I got here I opened an SMBC account and still use it after 1.5 years and don’t plan to change.
