While searching for something related to Okinawa I stumbled across the US military list of off-limits establishments. If you search for off-limits establishments you'll find the list in many places.
I am nothing to do with the US Military, I'm European, so I know basically nothing about this or the cultural aspects behind it.
I'm curious as to what exactly makes these establishments "off limits". There are several "herb" shops listed so reason is obvious. How about the others? Do they have any particular bad reputation? Are they places that a casual tourist should also avoid for some reason? Any interesting stories?
How about these places?
- Takahara Hotel: adjacent to the Nakagusuku Castle in Ishado Nakagusuku Village, Okinawa, Japan
- Tokyo Syoten Bookstore: Highway 23 at 820-6 Kamisedo, Chatan- Cho, Okinawa, Japan
- Yasu Ichi Bookstore: 2-1-10 Chatan, Okinawa, Japan
So many questions.
