Hi, I’ve bought some Matcha while visiting Uji in November, but unfortunately the cashier hasn‘t changed the sample to the real Matcha powder. I noticed this, when I was back home 🙈 I have on chance to go there again, so I checked the inside bag.
It is some kind of cha, but what? Do you know, if I can I brew it or better not?

Looks like Hojicha?
It says it contains 緑茶 green tea. Brew it on a lower temperature than black tea and enjoy. Definitely do not use boiling water. If you don’t know what temp your water is I’d say boil you water as usual then let your hot water sit for 10 minutes to cool down then brew. The hotter the temp the more you destroy the subtle flavor, so lower is better.
I’m confused. Why/how did you buy a sample (見本)? Those are samples for the sake of display, not really meant for purchasing or testing. The label says the name of the product is indeed matcha, with the ingredient being “green tea” which is what matcha is made from. Yet, your picture on the inside shows tea leaves, not grounded which is what matcha should be.
I’m sorry to say but I think they sold you a display sample filled with something other than matcha to save on costs since it’s not really intended for consumption.
If you peel the sample sticker off carefully looks like there’s an expiration date behind 👀 (保存期間)
Usually there’s nothing different with the sample but it might be expired. But since it’s tea I don’t know if it will actually expire.
