Switched Syllables

Let me know your favorite words with switched syllables. For example:

  • TIL: チクる comes from 口 (くち).
  • 新しい (あたらしい) was あらたしい and we still have 新た (あらた) and 改める (あらためる) today.
  • 雰囲気 (ふんいき) is sometimes ふいんき.
  • だらしない comes from しだらない, which is weird because other forms include だらしが無い, so you would think the etymology was from だらし.
  • ねた comes from 種 (たね).
