So like the title says I'm curious to any current or former JETs what your experience was at first? I'm specifically wondering for ALT because that's just what I personally want to apply for but I'm interested in hearing anything.
Some specific stuff I was wondering are:
Do you ever teach classes yourself? I know the job is assistant teacher but do you get to build a connection with students if you aren't the main teacher?
What is it like if you don't speak Japanese? Do the students/faculty have any prior English knowledge (I know the job is to teach English but I'm still curious how they would communicate with you before they've learned)
Additionally, I'm planning to study Japanese so I can speak to others there in their own language, but im worried I'll have a hard time learning Kanji or katakana or any of the written language. How did you get around that?
Sorry if these questions are asked a lot, I'm just super curious to hear about people's different experiences
