Lowest attendance from a Tokyo Dome show since the pandemic and down from roughly 8000 comparing to yesterday

  1. Where did you get this number per chance?

If true, this was to be expected. Night 2 is always down from Night 1. They stopped doing 2 night WK for a reason. I think the only exception was Liger’s retirement which was 40k Night 1 and 38K Night 2.

Curious, Omega wasn’t able to close the attendance gap.

I wonder if NJPW made the profit difference up in the international World Subs.

  2. I’m going to round a bit so I can do the sums in my head but about a 33% decrease from night 1

Wk 14 the hottest the promotion has been in the bushiroad era had about a 25% decrease from night 1

    Wk 16 had a 50% decrease from night 1

Idk I think 2 night kingdoms are tough sells unless the promotion is super hot. There is a rumour that tana was retiring tonight originally but stayed on an extra year because okada went and this is why they booked the show

  3. Yeah wrestling in Japan is just in a sad state. We need some big draws to come along, the current guys are flopping hard.

  4. It being on a Sunday didn’t help. I went to Wrestle Kingdom on Saturday but had to fly home on Sunday to be back at work on Monday. I imagine a lot of folks in Japan in Japan who travelled to Tokyo for it may have been the same.

It also didn’t look like the most inviting of cards. Omega vs Kidd is the only match I was sad to miss.

  5. What is desperately needed now is a wrestler who can make non-wrestling fans into wrestling fans.

  6. When was the last time NJPW sold out the Tokyo Dome for Wrestle Kingdom? Legitimately asking. Was it WK14, or nah?

  7. Oh, wow. I thought it would draw more than WK. Maybe that’s why they did the 5 minutes Tanahashi vs Shibata on short notice.

  8. I mean do people really expected it to draw more than WK ? lmao
It was always going to be less than WK, just for the simple fact that it’s on a sunday, a lot of people probably have to work the next day or they’re not even from Tokyo so they have to go back home, or they can just pay tickets for one event so they’ll choose the traditional 1.4 event. That’s why even the night 2 of WK14 didn’t draw as much as night 1 even though they had their biggest match possible on night 2. (they still did over 30k which was still a great number at least) Then for Wrestle Dynasty you add the fact that it’s a really shitty card with a lot of geeks and almost no draws on it, it’s not a mystery why it did so bad. It was obvious it was going to fail but I guess there’s still a lot of people who desperately want to pretend this partnership doesn’t suck.

  9. Damn that’s rough. I expected 22K best case scenario but woof. Will it be enough to make Kidani realise that the product (and this partnership) needs a drastic change? Probably not.

  10. Perhaps next time, Tony can send all the big names and actively promote the event. Loved the show, but it really felt half assed on most of the partners’ end.

  11. Maybe it is still the high of that Kenny/Gabe match but I thought Dynasty was the better paced show then Kingdom.

  12. They always have a drop on night two. The first double gold dash ending had a 10k drop in attendance and also had Tanahashi vs Jericho

  13. Poor number for a Tokyo Dome show, great number for a rather uninspiring card one day after the biggest show of the year.

  14. with 4 gaijins on the double main event and one of them being fucking Ricochet, that was not bad at all

  15. The AEW wrestlers would’ve felt right at home wrestling in ⅓ full arenas. Little cokeheaded geek loves trying to make his company look major league instead of being modest and booking within his means. But nope, everything is “great”!

  16. Where’s the downvoting visiting army when I said this was a glorified New Japan Strong show in a way bigger venue than it belongs to lol

  17. if they were going to do this again i think the yokohama arena is more realistic

  18. I guess now we know why the crowd didn’t have quite the volume in some of those bigger moments. 16k for that card seems about right. I’d love to think that Omega and the Bucks being on the card would be huge, but those 2018 days are long gone.
