Wrestle Dynasty 2026 Custom Match Card

I, like many, was somewhat shocked by the lack of star power on the inaugural Wrestle Dynasty card, even though it ended up being a good show. If they decide to continue this next year, I made a custom card and have provided explanations for each of the matches.

Date: January 3rd, 2026 (I know it's standard to have the 4th show go on first but it's on a Sunday next year so the day before seems logical)

Companies: AEW, NJPW, CMLL, Stardom (Not sure what purpose ROH has on the card)

Match Card

Opener: Gabe Kidd (C) vs Jay White – IWGP Global Heavyweight Championship

I know this might be confusing because Jay is still technically banned from competing in Japan, but I've fantasy booked in my head a scenario where he defeats Eddie to allow re-entry. I know it was Hikuleo who originally pushed him out but that obviously can't happen anymore. This is just Bullet Club vs Bullet Club, I like Gabe a lot more than Finlay and think he's a better worker so would prefer him in this spot, I've also booked a title for him because I think he'll be one of the potential guys who could take it off of Yota.

The Beast Mortos vs Mistico

These are two of the best luchadors in the world and a showcase match between them would be a classic. Not sure if we ever saw Taurus vs Mistico in the past, but even if it has happened a rematch would still be much appreciated.

Zack Sabre Jr vs Kyle Fletcher

By this time, ZSJ would no longer have the IWGP title but he's still the best worker in the company and 100% deserves a spot on the card. I think he could work a great program with Kyle Fletcher and their styles seem like they could blend perfectly, I know they've wrestled before but this is clearly a different and much improved Fletcher.

The Young Bucks vs FTR

I refrained from booking any AEW vs AEW or NJPW vs NJPW matches on the card, but this one was just too good to pass up. The Bucks vs FTR are arguably still the two best tag teams in the world, and them going at it again in the Tokyo Dome would be insane.

8 Man CMLL/NJPW Casino Gauntlet: Volador Jr, Hechicero, Mascara Dorado, Atlantis Jr, El Phantasmo, Kenta, Jeff Cobb, Hiromu Takahashi

I absolutely loved how Gedo took the Casino Gauntlet match and had 4 CMLL and 4 NJPW wrestlers in it, I'd love to see it again next year but I did add some more star power into the match, there are some guys like Cobb and Volador who I struggled to find singles matches for that I ended up putting in here.

Jon Moxley vs Shota Umino

Not sure what the current perception of Shota is on this subreddit is right now given how he had two very lackluster matches on back to back nights, but I have always been a fan of the Moxley and Shota mentor/rookie story and would love to see it result in a Tokyo Dome match.

Champion vs Champion match: Athena (AEW) vs Mayu Iwatani (IWGP)

In this fantasy booking, I've had Athena pick up the AEW Women's World Championship because I simply believe she's the best women's wrestler on that roster, and I think that Mayu will continue to hold onto that title for as long as possible. I booked a champion vs champion non-title match between maybe the two best women's wrestlers in the world right now.

Ren Narita vs Katsuroyi Shibata

This is again similar to the Moxley/Shota booking though this story goes much deeper considering Narita's heel turn that goes against everything Shibata stands for. I was originally going to book Narita walking into this match with the TV title but decided that there was a much bigger story to tell than a title. I'm glad that Shibata is now working with New Japan again and I'd love for these two to have a Tokyo Dome rematch with what is now a much darker and sadistic Narita.

Konosuke Takeshita © vs Yuya Uemura – AEW International Championship

These guys had an absolute banger this past year in the G1 and it's clear that they have top-tier chemistry which is very difficult to find from people of their age. It was easily my favorite match of the tournament and it seemed clear after that bout that it won't be the last time those two would face off in the ring again. This time there would be much bigger stakes on the line as I've booked Takeshita to still hold the International title and this could even be the match where he drops it.

Adam Copeland vs Hiroshi Tanahashi

This one obviously won't be an in-ring classic but two legends of the game going at it for the first time ever would be insane. It would be Tana's second to last match before his retirement and will also be Copeland's debut at the Tokyo Dome, and it's just something I'd like to see and it's as once in a lifetime as a match could get.

Will Ospreay vs Kenny Omega

The truth is that this match likely won't happen on this card as Tony wouldn't give one of his biggest potential matches to New Japan, but it was very weird how these two had two classics and then an idea of a trilogy was simply never brought up. Them going at it in the stadium that put them on the map would be a great place to have this third match.

Main Event: Kazuchika Okada vs Yota Tsuji (C) – IWGP World Heavyweight Championship

This is a match that I didn't realize I needed until it was brought up. Tsuji vs Okada would be the perfect passing of the torch moment for someone who I believe is the future of Japanese wrestling. I've booked him to win the title because I think he's the perfect guy to take the title off ZSJ while also making him look strong in defeat. Now that the possibility is there, it would be a top-tier Wrestle Dynasty main event and Okada's return to Japan should definitely be for the title that made him.
