Can I resell while on instructor visa

Hey everyone,

I’m currently in looking to go to Japan on an Instructor visa and looking into reselling as a side business. I know that running a full business would likely require a Business Manager visa, but I’m wondering if there’s a way to do this legally while keeping my Instructor status.

A few questions I have:
• Can I apply for Shikakugai Katsudō Kyoka (資格外活動許可) to do this part-time?
• Would I need a Kobutsusho Kyoka (古物商許可, Secondhand Dealer License) if I resell used goods?
• How strict is immigration when it comes to side businesses like this?
• Has anyone here done something similar while on a working visa?
Can I transition to full time reselling if takes off.
Any advice or experience would be really helpful! Thanks in advance.

  1. Generally, any activity outside the designated activities for your visa requires you to have permission from your current company and immigration office (google permission to engage in other activities). Part of that is some sort of projection how much time it will take and how much you plan to gain. Once you have permission from both you still need to have all required licenses (it does not matter if you do the thing part- or full-time) that the job requires and obviously you need to report your income from side gig properly for tax purposes.
