Hey everyone! I’ve been thinking about studying in Japan, but I have some concerns, so I’d love to hear from anyone who’s been in a similar situation.
I’m 22 and only have a high school diploma from Spain, where I studied humanities. My goal is to get into a university in Japan, but I have a few things I’m worried about.
I’m planning to go to a language school in Japan that also offers EJU (Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students) prep for two years before applying to a university. But first, I need to save up, so I’d be moving to Japan in about a year and a half, when I’m 24. By then, it’ll have been seven years since I last studied anything formally.
Concerns about the EJU and the science track
I know the EJU has two sections: humanities and science, depending on what major you want to apply for. Even though I studied humanities, I’d actually like to take the science exam—but I’m pretty worried about the difficulty since I haven’t touched math, physics, or chemistry in years.
If anyone has been in a similar situation or took the EJU science exam without a recent background in these subjects, I’d really appreciate hearing about your experience. Is it possible to catch up at a prep school, or is it way too hard without a solid foundation?
Alternative paths
I know another option would be to study in another country first and then try to go to Japan with a degree, but honestly, I feel like that would be even harder for me mentally and emotionally. I really want to live in Japan, so I’d rather just go straight there, even if it’s a longer and more difficult path.
If anyone has gone through something similar or has advice on how to prepare for this, I’d love to hear it. Any insights would be super helpful as I try to figure things out!
