Hello,
I've been working as an ALT for over 4 years, 5 years in 2025 and I am steadily working on my Japanese, and hoping to take the N2 this December.
Assuming I pass, I am looking into going into full time education (not related to languages, Japanese but the creative arts). This is not a course I can study online whilst working sadly, but to be honest I'm not sure I want that anyway. My study schedule would be Monday to Friday, so I have evenings and weekends free.
I would be looking to supplement my studies by working in Eikawa or similar at the same time and I was wondering does anyone here also do the same?
How was/is the experience?
How much do you have to work to afford your rent and bills? Based on my research and knowledge it's looking like I'd have to work somewhere around 15-20 hours a week to support myself at a guess.
As I already live in Japan I know my current outgoings, but am working on the assumption I can live on a bit less than I earn right now as I need to have time to study.
Thanks.
