Source of “If you get on the wrong train, get of at the nearest station…”

“…The longer you wait, the more expensive the return ticket will be.”

This quote overflows my social media accounts these days.

Some says it is from a Japanese legend, others a Japanese proverb.

But can anybody tell me the source of it, and confirm that it is, in fact, Japanese?

  1. The funny thing is you just get on the opposite train on the platform in most cases. It could be the next stop or 10 stops too far and it won’t make any difference
