There’s a lot of talk about getting some experience with IB, which then leads to the discussion “how?”
The 10th annual MEXT symposium will not be held in person, but online. With that, you can participate for free, signing up for the main lectures and breakout sessions.
In previous symposiums, the opening lecture would be prefaced with a short discussion on the goals of IB as envisioned by MEXT, and the state of affairs across Japan. While I don’t see that listed clearly here, I imagine you’ll be able to pick up a similar amount of understanding about where the field is intended to go, which may help you understand more about your own future comparability of interest. The breakouts separate across the programs (career program excluded), and for me were the high point of discussions.
It’s a pretty huge bummer as getting a chance to see student work in person and ask experienced teachers and admin questions was great, and it directly helped me find employment down the road when my interviewer was an activity partner from an earlier symposium. On the other hand, more people can attend, without travel. Split the difference: Attend with a friend or two and swap notes afterward.
