Who do you think is winning New Japan Cup?

Looking at the bracket these are personally my final four predictions (although after the G1 I’m hesitant about Umino and contemplated replacing him with o-Khan, but does he lose two back to back matches to him?) who have you got this year?

Shingo and Shooter are my front runners, mainly because I feel that Finlay and Evil shouldn’t be fighting for a title while feuding and that they could cost each other their tournament victories. I also feel that if Shotas new gimmick works well, he could be boosted to the main event ASAP. Shingos my other pick because 1. It’s shingo, I’ll always root for my boy and 2. I could see him vs Goto as a legitimate and exciting main event at SG to lead to someone else taking the title off he or Goto. Yuya is a bold pick but I feel he will have a great tournament.

  7. I feel like with Shooter’s reaction to losing to O-Khan we might be seeing a drastic change in him that might just be the catalyst for his rise.

  8. Idk but one thing’s for sure, Ishii will be eliminated in the first round as always

  9. I’m looking at the bracket and seeing/hoping for the possibility of a Yuya/ZSJ/Cobb/Shingo Final Four.

  12. Gut says Umino, heart says Umino, brain says we’re in for some huge shock.

This is the time to go big with the young guys in tournaments, so I’m calling Uemura vs Narita and Umino vs Boltin as the semifinals, Uemura vs Boltin as the final, with dark horse Oleg Boltin winning the whole thing. Then he’ll challenge for the title at Windy City Riot instead of Sakura Genesis to feed Gedo’s obsession with westerners headlining events in the US.

    If it’s Finlay and they feed Goto to him, I’ll stop watching.

  14. Sanada or Ishii, because I want to bitch and moan about my picks’ eliminations early

  15. I see 4 likely outcomes. From more to least likely:

    1- Finlay and he challenges (and beats) Goto for the IWGP HW title

    2- Uemura and he challenges Tsuji for the Global title

    3- Umino wins the Cup, turns heel and beats Goto at Sakura Genesis

    4- Zack wins it and takes rhe belt back

    5- Same thing as scenario 1 but with EVIL instead of Finlay (God please no)

    PS: Watch nothing of this happening and Shingo winning or something like that

  16. Feels like shingo. Good first real title defense and get a good match out of it.

  17. I think it’s Finlay’s to win. I think him and Goto is the match either way – either he beats Goto and you get this mega heated monster heel as champion, or Goto finishes their trilogy and avenges the horrible defeat from the autumn. 

    I personally would really like Finlay as champion… I think it’s worth it to have him beat Goto for the heat IF Goto is ultimately the one who Finlay puts over in his inevitable final match in the company.

    I do think not having Finlay beat Sabre would be a missed opportunity. They need to run that. That’d be a huge win for him and one of the only big wins he’s missing (I think the others are Uemura, which I also think he’s getting here, and Naito). 

    My bold predictions would be that Boltin is beating Takagi and going to the semi finals, and I think Gabe and Tsuji are both out in the first round. 

  21. njcup is a tournament to create new stars. If Uemura’s condition is back to full, there is no other option. If NJPW wants to increase attendance now, Finlay is not the way to do it. Finlay is only for the core wrestling fans.

  28. I would like tsuji to win again, but probably getting eliminated early.
