Ishigaki and Iriomote visit

I will be travelling to the Okinawa prefecture in late November.
I am very interested in visiting Ishigaki and Iriomote, but I'm wondering if it might might be too quiet to my taste, and if I should focus on Okinawa Hontō instead. I don't mind quiet, and not too touristy, but it has to be balanced.

My main focus will be:

  • Local food specialties
  • Hiking
  • Microbreweries
  • Museums, and maybe an aquarium

I was wondering what is the opinion of the people on this sub?

  1. As far as I know, there is no micro breweries in Ishigaki or Iriomote. But, they do have large scale awamori breweries. From the points you have about what you are looking for, I don’t think you can have a lot from those two islands.

If you prefer jungle trekking, sea and river kayakking, stargazing, diving, snorkeling, fishing, and what we called ‘nombiri’ relaxing times, you will find plenty. Their foods are superb, where you can find almost everywhere. And also lots of cultural and art activities to do.

Hope you have good times, either in Ishigaki, Iriomote, or Honto….
