Looking for Tips for a One-Week Stay in Okinawa in Late October/Early November

Hello everyone!

My wife and I will be traveling to Japan at the end of October for three weeks. We plan to spend the last week of our trip (late October to early November) in Okinawa, and we’re looking for advice from this community on how to make the most of our time there.

Here’s what we’re hoping to learn:

  1. Great Hotels and Areas to Stay
    • Which neighborhoods or islands do you recommend for a relaxing stay that still offers convenience and good access to sights?
    • Any specific hotels or resorts that are a “must” if we’re looking for comfort, local flair, or easy beach access?
  2. Delicious Food Options
    • We love trying local cuisine. Where can we find the best Okinawan dishes, whether it’s street food, casual restaurants, or more upscale dining?
    • Are there any particular specialties or hidden gems you’d recommend?
  3. Local Events
    • Are there any unique festivals, cultural experiences, or local gatherings around late October to early November that tourists can participate in?
    • Suggestions for off-the-beaten-path cultural events would be very welcome.
  4. Recommended Activities
    • Beyond beaches, what else is worth exploring? We’re open to everything from historic sites to nature hikes.
    • Any tours or day trips you found especially memorable?
  5. Weather and Beach Conditions
    • How is the weather typically in late October/early November? Warm enough for swimming, snorkeling, or other water activities?
    • Any tips for renting snorkel gear or finding good (and safe) spots to swim?

Additional info:

  • We are german and we both speak English well but don’t speak Japanese (beyond a few polite basics).
  • We’re happy to try public transport if it’s reliable, though we’d consider renting a car if it makes certain parts of Okinawa easier to explore.

Thanks in advance for your help! We appreciate any tips, personal experiences, or recommendations. We’re excited to experience Okinawa’s culture, food, and natural beauty to the fullest.

Looking forward to your suggestions!
