I was recently in Osaka and noticed something that left me a bit uneasy. Around the Shinsaibashi and Namba areas, I saw quite a few young men – probably late teens to early 20s following and trying to talk to women who were clearly not interested.
In one case, I saw a guy follow a woman for about 40 metres, repeatedly trying to get her attention. It didn’t look like a friendly conversation, and she seemed uncomfortable.
Is this a common thing in that area? Are these guys trying to recruit the women for something, or are they just making unwanted advances?
I felt bad witnessing it, but since I don’t speak Japanese, I wasn’t sure if or how I should’ve intervened.
