Looking for Japanese half-siblings born from my dad’s dad

My dad’s dad was a giant piece of garbage and had at least two children by a Japanese woman in the late 60s/early 70s. My dad hasn’t had a relationship with that man since the early 80s and unfortunately just found out about them. They came to visit my dad’s dad years ago in America and were turned away. My dad just found out about all of this and wants to know his siblings. Are there any groups/resources for children born from American soldiers out there? I’m sorry if this isn’t the place to ask but I don’t even know where to start.

  1. I have never heard of such a community. Do you know which base your grandfather worked at? How about contacting a city hall of where the base is located.

  2. So who was your grandfather? An ex-serviceman stationed in Yokosuka? Stationed in Kadena? Or random American who just lived in Japan for a bit? If you can narrow down the area where your grandfather lived in, then we’ll be able to direct you to more resources.

For example, if the births were registered and your grandfather’s name was listed on the birth certificate then you can apply to the local relevant ward office ( i think its this office) to request for the birth certificate and to contact the half-siblings.

Japan has very strict privacy laws so what they will do is to refuse you the above but i think they are allowed to ask the half-siblings, if identified if they would like to establish contact. This was the procedure last i heard.

If you have extra info on the half-siblings that would be helpful too – especially the location of their house, birthplace etc

  3. Wouldn’t it be much easier to find out through the dad’s dad side? He should know about everything…
