So a bit of context real quick:
I'm a Chicago-based college freshman studying music business, with an end goal of making a career as a composer. That being said, the JET program and English as a foreign language really fascinate me, and I'm looking into potentially doing it after college if I can't manage to squeeze study abroad into my schedule. My understanding from posts here on Reddit, the FAQ on JET's website, and from personally reaching out to JET to clarify things, is that I would not be able to monetize my work as a composer while I'm in the JET program. That is clear to me.
That being said, my questions for my fellow artists/musicians on here are as follows:
-
How was the workload when you were participating in the JET program? Was there free time in your schedules to pursue independent projects?
-
For those of you who had already been monetizing your work before JET, whether it be through an online store, Patreon, commissions or otherwise, how did you handle that during your time in the program?
