Hey everyone,
So next month (hopefully) I'm moving to Kyoto. My wife is already there doing research at Kyoto University, and we managed to get a couple’s dorm at Shugakuin. My name's already on the paperwork, so that's a big relief.
We just submitted my Certificate of Eligibility (CoE) application yesterday, April 27th. Now it's just a waiting game. Anyone know how long it usually takes? Kinda anxious about that.
Also… I'm a young Black guy with tattoos (even on my neck), and I'll be on a dependent visa. Plan is to survive doing arubaito (part-time jobs) at first. I speak good English and I've been studying Japanese a lot too. My wife has N1 and she's of Japanese descent, so that's helping with a lot of the paperwork and stuff.
Still, I'm a little worried about how easy it'll be for me to find work. If anyone's been through something similar, would love to hear your advice or any tips.

I lived at that dorm for a few months, before moving out to a rental apartment (I was also at Kyo-dai). Admittedly it was many years ago and I can’t help you with the certificate or tell you what your experience there will be like, but for me it was a fantastic time that I got so much out of. Let me wish you the same.
