Hey all, I'm looking to make a change with my life and I'm trying to figure out if going to Japan for language school is right for me.
I'm currently a computer engineer in Chicago who's pretty fed up with my professional life here. I've tried looking for roles and companies here that face Japan but I haven't much luck so I was considering going a different route.
As for some background I'm a 30 year old male with bachelor's degrees in physics and electrical engineering, self-studying I've reached around N3 level, though I just missed the score in December's JLPT test. I'm trying to decide between language school or JET as a trial-run of living in Japan and learning the language more efficiently with immersion. I currently have $16k in savings.
The goal would be after JET/Language school if I like it to try leverage my technical background and find work for a gaishikei to avoid the サラリーマン hellhole, otherwise I'd return stateside and try to find something with my more developed Japanese skills. My (eventual) goal is N2 Japanese for now.
I'm just trying to figure out if I'm being crazy of if this seems like a reasonable path?
