I was on JET ten years ago but withdrew early due to death in my immediate family. I'm reapplying this year to go with my husband and kids but struggling a bit with the SOP. I'm leaning heavily on my past ALT experience in Japan as it remains the bulk of my teaching experience. I've qualified as a tour since and want to learn Japanese as part of working in tourism. My original goal in going was to learn the language. My fear is that they'll take the angle, well why haven't you learnt Japanese in the ten years you've been at home?? And the simple answer is, my daily life, family and work commitments has never allowed me time commitment learning the language takes, hence I still want to apply to the programme and still feel I have a lot to offer as a teacher esp having been a tour guide. Anyone have any experience with reapplying after a considerable amount of time and how you handled your sop?
