I’m in my final year of a Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems in Brazil, and I plan to move to Japan at the end of this year, once I complete my course and receive my diploma. I’ve already visited Japan twice to make sure it was the right place for me, and thankfully, I adapted really well to the lifestyle there.
Now I’m starting to prepare the necessary documents, but I have several questions. To work in the IT field in Japan, do I need to have my degree officially recognized? For example, is it necessary to provide certified paperwork, go through any kind of verification process, or get approval from a Japanese institution, employer, or embassy?
I’m unsure what this process is officially called (recognition, validation, etc.), and I don’t know who exactly handles it — is it something I do through the Japanese consulate in Brazil, the Ministry of Education, or directly with an employer in Japan? I’m also curious whether this process applies to all degrees or only to regulated professions like medicine or engineering.
If anyone can share guidance on:
• The general process for getting a foreign degree accepted for work in Japan
• Whether any official certification or verification is required
• Which fields require this kind of recognition, and which don’t
• And whether large companies have different requirements compared to dispatch agencies
I’d be super grateful for any help, advice, or shared experience! I’m really committed to doing everything correctly from the start.
