French student starting in a London hedge fund — possible to move to Japan (IB/AM roles) after 3 years?

Hi everyone,

Im a 24 years old French student who just finished his studies and I’m about to start working at a hedge fund in London (1Y internship). I'm really excited about this first step in my career, but I’ve always had a strong interest in Japan, both personally and professionally.

I’m wondering if, after spending 3 years in London, it would be realistic to look for opportunities in Japan, ideally with American or British banks in roles like investment banking or asset management. Would 3 years be enough experience, or is it usually expected to have more seniority before making such a move?

Moreover, my current internship will allow me to save approximately 4000/4500 dollars per month, which is very lucky for my age. I was wandering if paying for a degree in Japan (tokyo or kyoto uni) could "guarant" me a job in japan.

Also, have any of you heard of similar career paths people moving from London to Japan after starting in finance? Any advice, insights, or shared experiences would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!
