Next Step?

Looking for advice on teaching in Japan: I’ll be graduating this semester and I’m having trouble figuring out what my next step should be… I applied to JET and got rejected, so now I’m planning on getting an English teaching license in the meantime. I don’t have any skills besides my mediocre Japanese ability, and am looking for an opportunity to immerse myself in the culture. Any help would be appreciated!

(If this matters, I’m in the US and disabled.)

  1. Going to be blunt, disabled how? Japan isn’t the most disabled friendly nation.

If you stay in the us and get a few years of teaching experience, you can apply as an international teacher, way better pay than ALT/eikaiwa

  2. Are you interested in teaching as a career or are you using it as a gateway to just get into japan?

  3. Best advice you will get.

If it’s not JET, don’t come here. It will hurt the rest of your life.

If it IS JET, do your time, and go home.
While possible, it is VERY, VERY hard / unlikely to build a decent future out here.
