Maybe stagnant wages and rising prices could be the culprit?
Naaah, it must be those weird baby names.
tourists
The cost of many hotels and tourism related activities are wildly expensive. Even a short weekend trip is outrageous. Hotel rooms also charged by the person makes a family with kids prohibitively expense. It’s sad to see it getting so expensive.
NHK even needs to pretend to be clueless about the causes? Its because of the fucking inflation and stagnant wages! People are travelling less because they have less disposable income. If you do have enough disposable income, why travel within the country when you can fly overseas?
Where are all the people claiming “Japan is fine with low wages because COL is so low and quality of life is so high!”
Well tourists with higher disposable income are going to keep coming and keep pushing up hotel, restaurant and tourism prices, to the point where Japan becomes just like other SE Asian countries, a tourist destination catering only to rich foreigners.
Well geez. Maybe the fact that the shinkansen price is a fucking 15 000 yen for one way travel from Tokyo to Osaka doesn’t help
30 000 yen……..
Fucking give us something like Kama’Aina. Ironically I did the most travel and stayed at the nicest hotel during GoTo and have only travelled domestically like once since. It really frustrating seeing all my friends from America, or even Canada, coming here being able to purchase so much more.
The Canadian dollar is almost on par with the Yen, but wages are higher in Canada so they still end up being able to spend more.
And also you know, actually fix the economy instead of applying bandaid measures please.
Why? Because we are all broke! The furthest we can go is the next prefecture.
Hotels in places international tourists don’t know or don’t want to go can still be reasonably priced, but if you’re trying to compete with wealthy Asians for rooms in Kyoto, for example, you’re going to lose.
Time to bring back the Go To campaign
Not enough Yuru Camp seasons clearly
I travel sometimes but yeah, it’s gotten way more expensive.
10 years ago I stayed at a nice place in miyajima, peak season. Hanami.
We paid 20,000 yen for one night, had our own tea lady and with a full course dinner.
Now it’s 50,000 without the dinner.
Thats an increase thats just wild. I know it’s 10 years but with salaries staying more or less the same I understand that many(especially families) can’t afford to travel at all.
