Osaka police are cracking down on “concept cafes” that illegally provide entertainment services, such as extended conversations with staff, without proper permits. These cafes, often disguised as restaurants, evade restrictions on operating hours and age limits. The crackdown follows an amendment to the amusement business law, tightening penalties for unlicensed operations, and aims to protect the industry’s reputation from unscrupulous practices.

A cafe where you can order a slap from a female employee for ¥500! Why I am both simultaneously surprised and not surprised?
What about those cafes where you pay ¥5000 for a drink and… extra below the counter services? 😅
I do think they should just revise the laws for the licenses, because shutting down a concept bar at 8pm sounds extremely stupid so I can somewhat understand why they’d try to work around this.
Not that I agree with the these bars but I definately undertstand their perspective.
The plot of the Akiba maid wars becomes a reality: concafes unionize and fight the police.
Seems like they just want to stop them from effectively operating hostess clubs under the guise of concept bars.
