As the title states, I’ve been tasked with an assignment for a class in my summer semester. While I could just look up my assignment and pull from online sources, I thought it be better to get actual perspective from people who are Japanese, and or people living in Japan.
The project deals with the daily life and the changing forms of society that have been observed and or noticed. While also exploring the different cultures throughout the city and how it’s changed from person to person.
So if anyone is interested in helping me, please reach out!

Why don’t you speak to Japanese people on the Hellotalk app. I took an anthropology class and my topic was regarding Japan. I had loads of stories for example one story was a girl who went to Australia for study abroad then returned to Japan being culturally out of sync, she went to her grandfathers farm and her grandfather gave her a pear; for one reason or another she told me she didnt like pears so she told her grandfathers no thank you which became a awkward situation in the family regarding the situation. Her mother had scolded her in private telling her stuff like “what do you think your doing!” “you can’t do that!”, etc. She learned in Australia from her roomates that she is allowed to simply refuse something for the reason that she doesnt have a liking to it, etc.
Another lady was an interviewer for a company and she tells me as an interviewer she asked her clients to communicate in English for a portion of it regardless of their ability because she can get a better grasp of the clients aspirations, goals, mindset, etc from there. Many people also say things similarly in how in English they feel more expressive than in Japanese.
Some old man had told me that now in Japan younger people moving out to the country side more to save on cash. Basically everyone talks about how “yen is so cheap now come to Japan” too.
