The benefits of Shingo winning at Dominion

Just thought I’d share some ideas I’ve had about Shingo possibly winning the belt and turning heel at Dominion.

Firstly I’d say if it was up to me I’d probably keep the belt on Goto until WK but giving it to Shingo has a lot of benefits.

Most importantly I think it adds a lot to the G1. Him closing the show out turning on Tsuji and Hiromu, possibly with a new faction like a lot of people have speculated, gives both a pretty clear motive. Gives the G1 a great story with Tsuji and Hiromu in different blocks chasing after Shingo, and a potential great finals match up that they could go with.

In general I think that opens up more options. Assuming Tsuji is to win the G1. At current a ZSJ rematch and Finlay are probably the best options for a G1 final. I think with a Shingo turn you can give Hiromu the juice and purpose to immediately put him in a G1 final even as a junior. Alternatively it frees up Goto who’s got history with Tsuji and is super over.

Also Shingo in that heel rose is a super safe bet.

  1. I’ve really enjoyed Goto’s run, it has far exceeded the “give the man his flowers” reign that I hate to say I was expecting. That said, I think you’ve made a solid case for Shingo here!

I don’t think any of the younger guys are truly up to carrying the championship quite yet, getting another top “old guard” player brought back to the top would absolutely be the best thing in the long run.

  2. Suddenly forcing heat on a guy who won’t be booed doesn’t add up for me. Not more than ZSJ winning in London and dropping at WK.

  3. I’m not gonna lie I thought after Naito left we’d ease off the “whenever the show doesn’t revolve around LIJ everybody should be asking why isn’t the entire show revolving around LIJ” pedal

  4. I’ve been loving the idea that Shingo wins the world championship, officially turns heel and starts a new faction with Young Blood who return earlier in the night.

  5. I’m all for adding more doubt to any title match so sweet

I just don’t think Shingo winning off a heel turn would open up more options, it would narrow things down to Tsuji/Hiromu over Goto being the general guy that everyone is chasing. One part of why the CHAOS dissolution and Hontai merge was so good is it instantly made Umino and Uemura’s Hontai aspirations clash with Goto’s status as the top guy

And while Kidd is likely going to be sidelined with the Global title, honestly Goto/Kidd is the most satisfying long term story they could run, and the only mark against it is that Kidd isn’t a domestic talent (maybe even Uemura’s time with Shibata and the LA Dojo is enough to fulfil some elements of that story, but the emotion isn’t there from the Bullet Club betrayal). Kidd has good history with Shingo but that’s a story that they’d have to work for instead of feeling natural

So Goto has way more potential opponents from the G1 (Shingo included, although the reverse is true too) than Shingo would. Fuck even Narita would make narrative sense
