I’m here for three days, want to know where or how to find beaches that have good waves. I went to three today and I feel like they were all very mild with little to no actual waves that could knock you down or dive under. Where should I go? Near chatan area but I have a car.

Had this explained to me a while back but didn’t understand the reason why then, nor now, but summer “bigger” high tides occur early morning or early evening. When a high-tide is scheduled for midday-ish it won’t be a big tide… Online tide tables confirm this… (wish I understood the science better but midday-ish high tides are never big here in summer…)
It is really hard to find big waves on the island, it is surrounded by shallow tidal flats and coral reef that break up a lot of the wave action before coming to shore. Like someone else said, it is best to look at the wind direction and focus your search in the places where the winds are hitting perpendicular to the beach.
