Can you transfer prescriptions from USA to Japan?

I take Xolair medication (self-injections) for chronic hives here in the states. I plan on moving to Japan and was curious if it's possible to have my prescription transferred seamlessly, or if I would have to essentially restart the whole process for getting approval. Are there things I have to consider in terms of copay, as well as length of time it will take to get approved for the medication, etc?

  1. You might be able to bring the medicine with you or import according to type of medicine, limits of dosage and so on.

But in Japan you’ll pretty much have to start over. You won’t be able to just transfer the prescription.

The doctor *may* take it into account and discuss your history with you, but you’ll still need to do tests and whatever to diagnose and convince them to prescribe the same medicine.

Sometimes it’s easy and straightforward. Sometimes it’s hard and you’ll need to shop around for a good doctor. I don’t know your medicine so can’t advice specifically.

  2. “Transfer”? No.

You can go to a doctor in Japan and (probably) get it re-prescribed. But you can’t just walk in and get the medication with a prescription from a foreign doctor.

  3. I was unable to transfer it. I’ve been unable to do “auto refill” here too. Do your best to bring the max possible you can get in the US.

Also Aleve and Tums don’t exist here
